Starting out as an artist, let alone trying to succeed as one is a hard thing to do, especially when you are trying to find and create your own style for your pieces.
I find that the first thing to do is look at the definition of style. In the words of dictionary.reference.com, style is "a particular kind, sort, or type, as with reference to form, appearance, or character". But to look at style with the eyes of an artist, I find that it can be more than that.
Style is not just the the look and appearance of the piece, but it is the feelings of the piece. It is how the pieces connect to the viewers and the artist themselves that truly creates the style of the pieces.
In the words of Pablo Picasso: "Art is a lie that makes us realize the truth."
You must create a piece that connects to the viewers so intensely that they believe in the piece wholeheartedly. But creating artwork that can please everyone is something that is not possible. You must find what you want before you begin to look for what other people want. If you believe in yourself, then there will be other people who will believe in you and your artwork as well.
Your artwork will represent pieces of who you are, and if you truly want to become successful you must become your art itself. Discover your style of art, become one with it and allow other people to see into your heart through your artwork.
Open yourself to others so that they, in return, will be able to open themselves to you and your art itself.
I wish you luck on your journey,
it will be hard,
and sometimes even painful,
and to look into yourself will only be the first step.
But do not be afraid,
when the time comes,
and you discover yourself,
you will discover your art.
I look forward to seeing who and what you will become.
Until we meet again,
Jun 純
